This is an easy one and therefore must be the first tip as you prepare for your sunflower session. In order to have a successful sunflower session you MUST like nature. Sunflowers are out in the open with bugs, and mosquitos, and tons of bees. If you want a session surrounded by flowers, you must be comfortable with these critters being part of your session. BONUS tip: bring a bug spray just in case to minimize some of the bites. Inevitably you may get bitten but a big spray may help.

NUMBER TWO


Be strategic about your outfit choices. Depending on your style, you may want a pastel, light color outfit that will complement the beautiful yellows, greens, and browns in a sunflower field. Some great pastel colors are: honeydew, sage, beige, ivory, tan, and light taupe. If you are looking a bold look, then try similar colors but with a richer, deeper tone. Some bold colors that look great in a sunflower field are: royal blue, coral, tangerine, steel blue, emerald, teal, and iris. Schedule your session for the right time of the day. Sunrise or late afternoon/early evening in when sunflowers look their best! They will be bring, open, and popping adding a gorgeous background to your photos. This time will also add a golden haze to your photos which will reflect on our skin tone, making it more vibrant and glow-y. BONUS tip: do your homework on your sunflower field. Not all fields are appropriate location for photos. Make sure the sunflowers are healthy and big enough for session. You'd want a location with minimal distractions and other patrons.
